Why is it that whenever one of my ships is set on fire I can have the crew set to repair for a good 5 minutes with no results? Every time a lucky hit sparks a tiny flame on one of my ships it's as good as gone. Is there an actual way to put it out or are the mechanics simply broken? I don't find ship combat enjoyable at the best of times but this is just making it beyond a chore.

Your best bet is to get armor piercing shells, pound em hard, switch to explosive after you punch a hole in the hull, you'll win easily. Or just do what I do and use ironclads mostly, never have to worry about it catching on fire. Last edited by shiggies713 ; Feb 7, 2017 @ 5:35am. #1.

What I did was use a Bow Kobaya to draw the cannon fire from the Black Ship. It completely destroyed the Kobaya unfortunately, but it let me get close enough with a Medium Bune (didn't have any naval upgrades researched) and board it. My boarding crew took out about 70 (out of 250 if I recall) of the Black ships crew.

The Black Ship is tremendously powerful, easily destroying any other ship in Shogun 2. It compares most similarly to Nanban Trade Ships , but with more than twice the number of cannons, much better reload skill at the expense of much worse accuracy, a stronger hull, more elevated and well-shielded decks, and slightly more crew.
