Mercury and mariner are the same company, both owned by the bruswick corp. Mariner was originally an australian licenced company that re-badged overseas engines and sold them locally under the 'mariner' brand name, mostly US made mercurys and a few Johnsons... some time ago Brunswick/Mercury bought the mariner name and took over operations.

Many models of the Mercury and Mariner are indeed the same unit with different decals. There were a few models that the Merc used the larger diameter gearcase while the Mariner used the smaller gearcase.

Mercury and Mariner are identical except for the cowl. In the 2 stroke ranges, the Mercury 15hp super, 25hp Sea Pro, 30hp LW, 40hp Lightning XR are rebadged Tohatsu's. In the 4 stroke range, the 8hp, 9.9hp, 25hp EFI and 30hp EFI are rebadged Tohatsu's too.

The two brands share the same DNA, and same brand promise. The main difference between the two brands is where they are sold and the larger breadth of products available under the Quicksilver brand.
