Video answer: How to charge a marine battery
Top best answers to the question «Should i charge a new marine battery»
New batteries should be given a full charge before use. New deep cycle batteries need to be cycled several times before reaching full capacity (50 - 125 cycles, depending on type)… Batteries should always be watered after charging unless plates are exposed before charging.

Re: Do I need to charge a new marine deep cycle battery? I don't know of any way to monitor battery voltage while charging to determine when the battery is fully charged. If you don't already have one, buy yourself a smart charger with an max output of between 5 and 15 amps. Charge the new battery for at least 24 hours.
Make note that quick charging marine batteries on a regular basis will decrease the life of the battery. No more than one charge per day should be given. The battery should also be allowed to cool off before use. Quick charging can cause extra heating.
Re: New battery, should I charge it first? NO do not! If its got a charge you need to run it allllllll the way down. This is a rechargeable battery just like on your cell phone..... First time u use it run it all the way down other wise it
Essential to marine battery maintenance is proper charging so always use a charger that meets the manufacturer’s recommendations. Regularly under-charging a battery erodes its performance and reduces its life due to a phenomenon called sulfation.
that suits your marine battery. Otherwise, it may cause battery damage. For example, if you have a wet cell battery, it’s wise to use a quality lead-acid battery charger (720-36).It will allow you to charge the battery fast and easily. If you select deep cycle battery then check our marine deep cycle battery charger.
A fully discharged battery that still has enough life in it to be able to be fully charged again is around 11.6 volts. RV and marine house batteries will last longest if they are always kept above 12.0 volts, preferably above 12.1 volts.
A Float Charger will recharge batteries in three distinct stages. When you first plug in your Minn Kota onboard charger, your batteries will enter the Bulk Charging phase, when the highest charge voltage and current will be applied to restore battery charge, typically up to a point of 80% of the battery’s capacity.
Deep Cycle Batteries in a cycling application require a recharging voltage of 2.43 to 2.45 volts per cell. This is 14.6/14.7 volts for a 12 volt nominal installation and 29.2/29.4 volts in a 24 volt site. Secondly, how many volts should a marine battery have? The voltage on a fully charged battery should be about 12.7-12.8 volts.
Whenever any battery is discharged below 12.4 volts and left sitting in that state, sulfation begins to form within the battery, which shortens lifespan and diminishes capacity. That makes a quality battery maintenance device an excellent investment for any vehicle that doesn't see regular use, especially boats that only see seasonal use.
