The answer: You don't. And you can't, really. The Black Pearl that's here for On Stranger Tides isn't actually a real sailing ship. It's a tall ship set constructed over the hull of another vessel, the Sunset, which once earned its keep as a service ship for Gulf of Mexico oil platforms.

The ship, which portrayed the HMS Interceptor, aboard which Sparrow chased his purloined ship, the Black Pearl, in the first “Pirates” movie, is in real life the Lady Washington, a historical replica tall ship that was launched in Aberdeen, Washington in 1989.

In the first movie, the Black Pearl was a steel barge with wooden structures built on top to resemble a real ship. In addition, a soundstage set was used to achieve better control over fog machines. For the second and third movies, a floating sailing ship was actually built in the shipyards at Bayou La Batre in Alabama on the hull of the cargo ship Sunset to serve as the set, though it is not an authentic tall ship.

It could be said that the real name of this ship is the "Black Pearl", because (as of 2010) the Queen Anne's Revenge was built over the Black Pearl. But then, the Black Pearl was built over the Sunset, which was the original ship, providing the hull and mechanical guts for each. Black Pearl is a sailing yacht launched in 2016, which is 106.7 meters in length. It has three DynaRig masts supporting a sail area of 2,900 square meters. The yacht was known during its build process originally as Oceanco Y712 and thereafter as "Project Solar". The hull is steel, the superstructure aluminum, and the masts carbon fiber. The yacht is owned by Russian billionaire Oleg Burlakov. It is expected that Black Pearl can cross the Atlantic using only 20 litres of fuel ...

An ornate fictional ship made famous in the Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise, the Black Pearl is a grand ship recognizable by her intimidating black hull and sails. Known to be untouchable for her speed, thanks to the large amount of sails she uses, she was originally known as Wicked Wench until she was burned and sunk before being resurrected from the sea floor by Davy Jones and renamed by Jack Sparrow.

Pirate ships in the movies bear little resemblance to the vessels actually used by the real deal. The Black Pearl, for example, is a large three-masted galleon, but the real pirates operating in the Caribbean preferred fast, single-masted vessels of the type then known as sloops.
